Methodology

How NamasteBG builds its cost-of-living estimates and keeps its guides trustworthy.

We want you to trust our numbers, so here's how we make them — and where they stop being precise.

Cost-of-living figures are estimates for a typical single person, not a guarantee. Your real costs depend on lifestyle, neighbourhood, and timing.

Cost-of-living estimates

  • Baseline. Each city's figures start from a representative monthly budget for one person — rent for a modest one-bedroom, utilities, groceries, transport, and a little discretionary spending.
  • Sources. We combine publicly available rent and price data, our own on-the-ground experience living in Bulgaria, and feedback from the community.
  • Currency. Amounts are shown in the local currency and converted using live mid-market exchange rates (see sources).
  • Updates. We review the baselines periodically and stamp each page with a "last updated" date. Prices move, so always treat them as a guide.

Guides

Every guide is written from lived experience, checked against official Bulgarian sources where they exist, and dated with a "last reviewed" line. Where a guide cites figures or rules, we link the source so you can verify it yourself.

The BulgarIA assistant

The assistant answers from a curated knowledge base built from our guides. It can still make mistakes and doesn't have access to your personal circumstances — confirm anything important with an official source.
